Recombinant Human Growth Hormone After Transplantation HEIGHT VELOCITY AND HEIGHT STANDARD DEVIATION SCORES

چکیده
FIGURE 16-27 Because growth often remains poor despite a functioning renal graft, a large multicenter controlled study was initiated to evaluate the effectiveness of recombinant human growth hormone in stimulating growth in children with a kidney allograft. In all three groups a significantly different growth velocity and change in height SDS occurred during the first year of treatment with growth hormone (P < 0.0001) compared with a control group. Preliminary data from the second year of treatment also show a continued improvement in growth velocity compared with baseline; however, not of the magnitude seen during the first year. The mean glomerular filtration rate did not change significantly in the group receiving growth hormone. Acute rejection episodes were noted more frequently during treatment with growth hormone, especially for patients with a history of more than one episode. However, other factors, such as noncompliance with immunosuppressive medications, were not analyzed and cannot be excluded. Values are expressed as mean ± standard deviation. SDS—standard deviation score. (From Broyer [28]; with permission.)

Recombinant human growth hormone treatment in infants with chronic renal failure.
Poor growth is a particular problem for children with congenital renal disease. A one year trial of the use of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) in eight infants and young children with chronic renal failure is reported here. At entry bone age was less than 2 years, mean (range) chronological age 1.9 (1.3-2.7) years, and glomerular filtration rate (GFR) was 17 (9-42) ml/min/1.73 m2. Heigh...
متن کاملIncreased height standard deviation scores in response to growth hormone therapy to near-adult height in older children with delayed skeletal maturation: results from the ANSWER Program
BACKGROUND A primary goal of recombinant human growth hormone therapy (GHT) in children is attaining normal adult height. In this study, children with growth hormone deficiency (GHD) (including isolated idiopathic growth hormone deficiency [IGHD] and multiple pituitary hormone deficiency [MPHD]), idiopathic short stature (ISS), and Turner syndrome (TS) were evaluated for near-adult height (NAH)...
متن کاملEffect of growth hormone on short normal children.
The growth of 26 short normal prepubertal children (mean age 8.4, height velocity standard deviation score for chronological age between +0.4 and -0.8) was studied for two years. Sixteen children were treated with somatrem (methionyl growth hormone) during the second year, and the remaining 10 children served as controls. During one year of treatment the height velocity standard deviation score...
متن کاملThe Role of Growth Hormone on Growth of Children with Cystic Fibrosis
Dear Editor,In spite of recent advances in treatment of infection and emphasis on adequate nutritional intake, patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) frequently have less than ideal body weight and adults are often shorter than their target height.1Owing to a state of relative growth hormone (GH) insensitivity, the anabolic and growth promoting effects of recombinant human GH (rhGH) treatment have ...
متن کاملA Follow-up Study to Monitor Adult Height Among Spanish Children with Growth Hormone Deficiency Who Received Biosimilar Human Recombinant Growth Hormone (Omnitrope®) During a Phase III Clinical Trial
INTRODUCTION An initial Phase III clinical trial has evaluated the efficacy and safety of biosimilar recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH; Omnitrope(®), Sandoz) in Spanish children with growth hormone deficiency (GHD). At the end of the study, those patients still growing were offered to remain on treatment (as in usual clinical practice), and continued to be monitored. The aim of this study ...
